Let's not take ourselves too seriously

Hi, I'm Sara, and I am an astrophysicist who loves to bake.

I started baking a few years ago after I finished grad school and realized that I actually had time for a hobby. At first, I just wanted to make tasty treats, but I soon found that my curiosity took over. It wasn't enough to find a recipe and see if it worked. I wanted to know why it worked.

The message you hear in baking is that you always need to follow the recipe exactly, but my philosophy is that creativity shouldn't be limited by a recipe. I want to know what variables I can play with, and how I can improve and modify recipes.

I am not an expert in baking, or an instagram-worthy decorator. I'm not going to tell you about cozy mornings with the scent of cinnamon filling the house as the leaves turn colors and the air picks up a certain crispness. Instead, I am going to share what I learn as I try new techniques and dishes. I am going to apply the scientific method to recipes to figure out what makes them tick and try to perfect new techniques. It's going to be a messy process, and I'm going to make mistakes, but that is part of science and learning. We'll start with the basics and make our way from there.

So come join me, and let's see what we can learn together along the way!
